SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – A person suspected of driving under the influence has been arrested in Oakland after crashing into a sheriff's vehicle and injuring the deputy inside.

At around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, an alleged drunk driver ran a red light at high speeds on 16th Ave. hitting a patrol deputy's car head-on, the Alameda County Sheriff's Office reported.

The suspect's vehicle flipped onto its side and came to rest next to Foothill Missionary Baptist Church.
The officer was transported to a hospital with injuries, but is expected to recover, according to officials. "We are thankful nobody died," police wrote in a tweet.
The driver was arrested at the scene.
