According to the Oakland Police Department's Twitter account, the unidentified suspect was armed with a knife. Earlier Wednesday, the same suspect shot an officer at 21st and Telegraph Ave.

The firearm was recovered from that scene.

The officer who was shot is stable at a hospital. Oakland Police Officers' Association President Barry Donelan claimed in a release the officer's gunshot wound was "mere inches away" from causing "a much worse outcome."

The suspect had suffered minor self-inflicted wounds from the knife, and with the help of the negotiators, the suspect surrendered, the knife was recovered and the suspect is now in custody.
