Never before seen evidence was presented, including the 911 call that Pelosi made from his bathroom on the fateful night and video from a police body camera. After hours of deliberation, the judge ruled that prosecutors have showed enough evidence for the case to move forward on all state charges, including attempted murder.
Prosecutors used a variety of digital evidence to lay out their case against DePape, the most dramatic of which was a 17 minute video where DePape confessed to a San Francisco police lieutenant about why he broke into the Pelosi home.
In November, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said DePape was searching for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi when he allegedly attacked Paul Pelosi in the Pacific Heights house.
"It appears as though this was, based on his statements and comments that were made in that house during his encounter with Mr. Pelosi, that this was politically motivated," Jenkins said.
During the hearing, DePape sat silently wearing an orange prison jumpsuit. He faces multiple charges, including attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, and has pleaded not guilty.
In court, Pelosi's daughter Christine was joined by other supporters of the family. Paul Pelosi underwent surgery for a skull fracture and recovered enough to make his first public appearance earlier this month at the Kennedy Center Honors where he received a standing ovation.
