Menlo Park Police intervened in a mental health crisis Saturday evening.
Police responded to the 800 block of Santa Cruz Ave. in San Mateo County on Aug. 7 where they found a 32-year-old man seated in the road cutting himself with scissors.
The man was severely bleeding from his self-inflicted injuries. By using de-escalation and negotiation techniques, officers were able to convince him to voluntarily drop the scissors.
Officers administered life preserving measures until the district’s fire department arrived, officials reported.
The man was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment and mental health services. Police did not report the cause of the mental health crisis.
