The incident, which attracted national headlines and the attention of social media users, happened Janaury 5 near Hyde St. and Vallejo St. in San Francisco. Investigators on Friday released video footage of the incident, along with photos of a vehicle allegedly used by the suspects.

Police said 30-year-old Sarah Vorhaus told them she was walking her two dogs, Colton and Chloe, just before 6 p.m. when three masked men approached her from behind and demanded the dog at gunpoint.

Vorhaus was hit in the face repeatedly by one of the men before the group jumped in a waiting vehicle and fled the scene.

She was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, pictures of which went viral.

Chloe remains missing. Vorhaus has launched a website in a large-scale effort to ensure Chloe’s safe return, even offering an $8,000 reward.

The breed is one of San Francisco’s most popular and is a common target for thieves. Anyone with information is asked to call the San Francisco Police Department at 415-575-4444 or text TIP411.
