In a startling incident captured on video, a visitor to Oakland Chinatown was dragged by a car when a thief snatched her purse.
The incident happened Wednesday outside Oakland Beauty Supply in the 900 block of International Blvd. The victim’s husband told KPIX-5 his wife had her purse crossed around her neck and shoulder when she was dragged about 150 feet by the suspect’s car.
He said his wife was very shaken up after the incident.
While the store’s surveillance camera didn't capture the robbery itself, it did record the woman getting dragged down the street as she held onto her purse.
It’s the latest in a series of high-profile attacks on Asians in the Bay Area.
In response to the violent streak, Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O’Malley has launched a special investigative unit, along with increased patrols from the Oakland Police Department’s mobile community command unit.
