East Bay Congressman Eric Swalwell has a message for his colleagues: Stop acting so much like the WWE.
In a recent op-ed piece for NBC news, Congressman Swalwell wrote that oftentimes the same Republican House members who criticize him intensely on evening cable news shows, will approach him on friendly terms on the House floor the next day.
"I have seen over the years that when the cameras are off and no one’s looking, they want to be your buddy," Swalwell told KCBS Radio. "But when the cameras are on, they don’t look at their constituents as people they represent, they look at them as fans."
Swalwell, who’s represented California’s 15th Congressional District since 2013, argued the pro-wrestling-like posturing gets in the way of making good policy.
"Too many people are seeking fame and not results, and getting things done," Swallwell said.
The Congressman has been known for his outspoken cable news appearances too, as he’s lobbed plenty of criticisms at former president Trump over the years. Nevertheless, he argued this is a critical moment for bi-partisan cooperation.
"I do believe the American people want us to collaborate where we can and we have a president who ran on uniting the country," he said.
