A fed up San Francisco Apple customer has sued the technology giant for the exact cost of his iPhone, saying that the company refused to repair the device even though it was under warranty.

Theodore Kim is seeking $1,383.13 from Apple through a lawsuit filed in a small claims court, Insider reported.

"It levels the playing field so that just a simple consumer like me can sue a big company without having to worry about getting lawyers and all that other stuff," Kim said to the financial news website. "I feel like at least I want my day in court."

The phone at the center of the lawsuit was originally purchased from an authorized Apple seller in Vietnam. The device was supposedly under warranty until Oct. 2022, but when Kim attempted to have a repair done to his iPhone at an Apple store in the U.S., the technology company refused, claiming the phone had been "tampered with."

Due to company policy, Apple will not repair a device if there have been any "unauthorized modifications, or any repairs or replacements not performed by Apple," it stated. However, when Kim tried to ask how his phone had been tampered with, Apple declined to provide further explanation.

In a final ditch effort, Kim found a blog post describing how someone in Seattle successfully sued Apple in a small claims court and decided to try it for himself.

"I said, 'Well, ok, why don't I try the same avenue,'" he explained to the financial news website. "I kind of jokingly said, 'Well, this is like a David and Goliath kind of situation.' We'll see what happens."

Kim's trial against Apple is set for Nov. 23.
