San Francisco public health officials last week quietly made a significant change to the city’s stay-at-home orders.

According to the city’s website, as of December 10, people from more than one household can get together outdoors, as long as they are masked and maintain a distance of no less than six feet. Among the listed activities allowed are walks, ‘hanging out’ at the park and low-contact sports like golf, tennis, pickleball and bocce ball, as long as equipment isn’t shared.

San Francisco District 6 Supervisor Matt Haney tweeted about this modification on Saturday night, and told KCBS Radio that he thinks it’s important for the city to amend the order as it did with playgrounds.

He added that the stay-at-home order was so restricted, it would have made it difficult for people to out on a date.

“I say somewhat jokingly, it now allows dating again, but you have to be masked and you have to be outdoors,” he said.

In his tweet he advised those wanting to date to wear masks and warns, “No kissing," unless you move in together.

The original order was so restrictive that it did not allow for two people who did not live together to be together under any circumstances.

Haney is worried that by making stay-at-home orders too restrictive, they could have the opposite effect and encourage people to rebel.
