The San Francisco Office of Economic and Workforce Development said on Friday it will give out a variety of grants to businesses in the city to ensure their storefronts are "safe, accessible and visually appealing."
The city said it recognizes that some businesses are still struggling due to the pandemic and will need additional assistance to recover, according to the release. San Francisco has given $63 million in grants and loans to give to over 3,300 small businesses.
"As San Francisco re-energizes, we recognize that small businesses are critical to our economy and the San Francisco civic fabric. After two years, we see how hard our small businesses fought to stay alive during the pandemic, and we hope these grants will help them turn the corner and recover," Kate Sofis, Executive Director of the Office of Economic and Workforce Development said in the release.
The grants will be rolled out in two phases, the first will focus on businesses' "technical design services." The second will provide funds for those with a plan to implement improvements, the release said.
Businesses can apply for grants and the funds are expected to be distributed in the summertime.
There are currently seven grants available which include SF Shines Design Service Grant, Accessible Business Entrance Grant, Shares Spaces Equity Grant, Storefront Vandalism Relief Grant, Revolving Loan Fund, Emerging Business Loan Fund and CA Rebuild Loan Fund.
