Earlier this week, San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo proposed a mandate that would require proof of vaccination prior to entry of any event of 50 or more people at city facilities for attendees and staff.

The ordinance would include the Convention Center, San José’s historic theaters, Center of the Performing Arts, and SAP Center, among others, according to a press release issued by the city.

"In a time of rising infection rates, we need to look for every tool in the toolbox to protect the health and safety of our residents," said Liccardo. "The most effective way to return to a ‘new normal’ is for our entire community is to get vaccinated."

The Mayor is also considering evaluating data from San Francisco’s current mandate to determine if similar vaccination requirements should be implemented for entry to indoor dining, theaters, gyms and other privately-owned facilities.

This proposal will be heard at next Tuesday's City Council meeting and must be approved by a two thirds majority to be implemented.
