The Happy Hollow Park & Zoo in San Jose needs some help naming the newest additions to their family: a pair of twin lemur pups.

A black and white ruffed lemur named Vintana gave birth to the twins on Apr. 16.

“The birth of any newborn animal at the Zoo is cause for celebration, but the birth of an endangered species is momentous,” said Kiersten McCormick, Happy Hollow’s General Manager.

Black and white ruffed lemurs are a critically endangered species and can only be found in the wild in Madagascar.

The proud father is 19-year-old Nify.

Vintana and the two pups have been staying in a private den, but zoo officials say that she has already starting bringing the pups out into the main exhibit where guests can catch a glimpse.

Both pups are said to be doing well and are “bright and alert and on track weight-wise for their age,” said veterinary technician Rachel Atkins.

NBC Bay Area reports the zoo plans to hold a public naming contest in the weeks to come.

The zoo is open with pandemic restrictions in place, and reservations are required.
