Santa Clara County is gearing up to implement a COVID-19 booster shot distribution plan.

The county was one of the first to set up mass COVID-19 vaccination sites and now they are looking to do the same for the booster.

"We have to take those lessons learned and put together an even better plan well in advance of the need for boosters," said Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian.

Simitian wants to see a concrete plan for distributing booster shots when the time comes.

"Part of the challenge of course the last time around was that we had an uneven supply, we had conflicting direction from the state and national level and we really didn’t know from week to week just how much vaccine was going to be available," he explained.

The board of supervisors has directed county staff to put together a written report detailing what a booster distribution plan would actually look like.

"If we’ve got a half-dozen different healthcare organizations all doing their own thing we’re not going to have a good result for the community," said Simitian. Collaboration is key.
