Authorities on Saturday announced that over "the last 24 hours" they received several calls about bear sightings in the city’s Woodcreek area, according to a Facebook post.

In addition, police posted a screenshot of a residence's doorbell security footage showing a bear right in front of the doorway on the porch.

Officials added in an update Sunday that one they responded to a call from a resident who thought their neighbor's dog was being attacked, potentially by a bear. However, officers responded and did not find the dog or the dog owner. There were no follow up reports either matching an attack on a dog, police said.

No other incidents or officer responses to the bear sightings were mentioned by authorities.

While bear sightings aren't common in Fairfield, they are often found in the hills, authorities said. They reminded residents to not seek out the animals, bring in trash cans after they are picked up, leave out cat or dog food and bring in pets when possible. If people do see a bear, avoid and back away at a safe distance.
