A nonprofit based in the Tenderloin has come up with an unconventional way to convince the remaining San Franciscans who have not gotten vaccinated to receive a COVID-19 shot.

The lure of rewards including concert tickets, Golden State Warriors games and hard cold cash have all been used in the past, but nonprofit group Code Tenderloin is trying something different: free weed.

On Friday afternoon at UN Plaza, Code Tenderloin will offer one-eighth of an ounce of cannabis to everyone 21 or older who receives a COVID-19 vaccination, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

"Pulling out all the stops here. Code Tenderloin has been walking the streets daily and has vaccinated 1000s of people in the past few months," San Francisco Supervisor Matt Haney wrote on Twitter. "They’re doing the work, effectively."

Code Tenderloin created the event to appeal to young adults who are not getting the vaccine because they believe they are not at risk of getting seriously sick.
