Police Chief Bill Scott and his command staff hosted a meeting and described what happened before officers shot the two men involved in an incident under the 280 freeway near Mariposa and Owens Streets on May 19.

"Within seconds Mr. MacFhionghain again brought the knife point up and then downward toward Mr. Mendoza in a stabbing motion at least two times while officers continued to give the commands to drop the knife," Paul Yep San Francisco Police Commander said.

Cell phone video from witnesses were shown at the meeting as well as various angles from officers body cameras.

"What we hear in the video is that an officer said that both men had a knife. We also heard an officer say that one man had two knives," Chief Bill Scott said. "This is why we show all the videos because it shows perspective of different officers and this is why we do an investigation."

57-year-old Michael MacFhionghain died at the scene and 49-year-old Raphael Mendoza died after being transported to the hospital, KTVU reported.

"So let me be very clear it has not been concluded yet because the investigation is just eight days into this incident that is why we do an investigation," Scott explained. "That investigation is being handled by the California Department of Justice and hopefully they will determine which knives were used and how."
