Shooting on San Francisco's Great Highway leaves 1 dead, 1 hospitalized

A shootout on San Francisco's Great Highway which runs along Ocean Beach left one dead and another in the hospital early Thursday morning, according to a statement released by the San Francisco Police Department.

Officers responded to a call about a possible shooting at 12:52 a.m. on Thursday to 4600 block of Irving Street just off Ocean Beach and Golden Gate Park, according to the statement.

Once on the scene, a man was found having sustained a non-fatal gunshot wound. He was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

The second suspect had fled the scene in a vehicle after the shooting, but police later discovered the stationary car by Skyline Boulevard.

The second suspect succumbed to his gunshot wound despite medical intervention from emergency personnel summoned to the scene.

Neither of the suspects have had their identities released yet.
