During the course of the night, the suspect fired at the officers multiple times, with police returning fire at one point and the suspect retreating back into the residence.

After a period of inactivity, officers made their way towards the home and found the suspect had died from his gunshot wound.

Sacramento police tweeted that no officers were harmed, however there will be a "heavy police presence" in the area as they continue their investigation.

And because of the shooting's proximity to the high school, it will be closed Tuesday.
