Detectives began a search for the one-year-old pet, named Bruno, after he was stolen from his San Lorenzo neighborhood nearly two weeks ago. The dog was valued at approximately $10,000.
The two dogknappers allegedly contacted Bruno's owners while on the run, and demanded to know his microchip information, police said.
Authorities received a grand theft warrant for one of the two suspects after looking at video surveillance footage of the theft.
Investigators' search began in San Lorenzo, followed by Pomona before eventually ending up in Wilcox, Arizona. Bruno was located in the backseat of the suspect's vehicle during a traffic stop initiated by an Arizona State Trooper, 30 miles from the New Mexico state line.
The suspects were subsequently arrested, identified as Uriah Byrd, 40, of San Francisco, and Saveya Maybury, 22, of Lewisville, Texas.
Alameda County Sheriff's officers flew to Arizona to retrieve the dog and return him to the Bay Area. Police released video of the heartwarming reunion between Bruno and his family.
