Two juveniles, including 11-year-old, arrested in attack on elderly Asian man in San Leandro

San Leandro Police have arrested an 11-year-old and 17-year-old in the bold daytime robbery of an 80-year-old Asian man in San Leandro last weekend.

At the time of his arrest, police said the younger boy was driving a vehicle that was stolen on Monday in Oakland.

The incident, which was captured on home surveillance video, happened at about 4 p.m. Saturday in the 14200 block of Acapulco Rd. The boys pushed the man to the ground and demanded his wallet, police described. As he screamed for help, the suspects took the man’s Fitbit watch and fled the scene in a blue Subaru sedan.

The victim sustained minor injuries but didn’t require treatment.

"At this present moment, there is no indication the elderly victim was targeted due to his race, San Leandro Detectives are pursuing all avenues of investigative leads," said Lt. Ali Khan.

Investigators are looking into other crimes the juveniles could be connected with, including the robbery of a 19-year-old Hispanic woman in the 500 block of Bancroft Ave. a short time later.

The video was obtained by KPIX-5.
