
SAN LEANDRO, Calif. (KCBS RADIO) – Stuart Alexander, 'The Sausage King' of San Leandro, became infamous on a fateful day in June, almost 22 years ago, when he shot and killed three government workers in his factory.

The first half of KCBS Radio's series, "The Sausage King," has covered Stuart's life up until this point: who he was, how his business was built and what events shaped his life before he became a murderer.
The second half of the series will be focused on the crime itself.
In this week's episode, the events that directly led up to Stuart making the decision to kill two USDA inspectors, Jean Hillery and Tom Quadros and one California Department of Food and Agriculture inspector, Bill Shaline, will be explained. How one tenacious and determined inspector in particular butted heads with Stuart over the safety standards of his factory, ratcheting up the stakes over several months of visits prior to the final one in June.
A series of decisions and moves made on the day of led to three people tragically losing their lives and one just barely managing to escape.
Episode 5 will delve into what exactly happened that day – what the conflict was and how the argument escalated to murder.
The final moments were caught on videotape, immortalizing the tragedy for those at the trial who had to view the footage, often more than once. We will hear from the first officer on the scene, who actually knew Stuart socially and how the arrest was inevitably made.
The one surviving inspector, Earl Willis, will make his mark on the subsequent trial with critical testimony, despite battling what would eventually be a fatal bout of cancer.
