PG&E slowly restoring power to thousands of Bay Area customers after massive storm

Sunday's record rainfall plunged thousands of Bay Area homes into darkness, with power outages in the region lasting into Tuesday morning.

Thousands of PG&E customers in the region were still without power Tuesday morning, according to the utility company's most recent numbers. As of 6 a.m., a little over 12,600 Bay Area homes were still in darkness, down from a whopping 68,000 just 24 hours previously.

The Peninsula has the most outages, at 4,788, followed by the South Bay at 3,448 and the North Bay at 2,382.

In all, PG&E said Sunday's storm resulted in 630,000 customers losing power, over 10% of its 5.5 million total customers.

The utility company said it had more than 3,000 workers and contractors mobilized on Monday to react to outages, downed power lines and other issues resulting from the atmospheric river.

As of Tuesday morning, there is no estimate yet for when power would be fully restored for all customers.
