Kids and teenagers are rolling up their sleeves in the South Bay, after Santa Clara County opened up COVID-19 vaccine eligibility for anyone 12 to 15 year olds.

“We are definitely moving in the right direction and appreciate the enthusiasm,” Santa Clara County Supervisor Cindy Chavez said.

She cited that 500 13 to 15 year olds have been vaccinated in the past 48 hours. On top of that, more than 14,000 13 to 15 year olds signed up for appointments next week.

“We know that the more people that get vaccinated, the safer it’s going to be for us to open up and we also know that it’s going to be much, much easier for young people to get to school,” Chavez said.

12 to 15 year olds have only received the Pfizer vaccine, as both the Moderna and Johnson and Johnson shots are still limited to people 18 and older.
