Joseph Coveleski, 66, of Nevada, was arrested for robbery and criminal threats and booked into the San Joaquin County Jail.
On April 22 at around 3:45 p.m., Tracy police received reports of a robbery at a bank in the 1900 block of West 11th Street. Patrol officers and the Special Enforcement Team responded to the scene where they witnessed a suspect attempting to flee on Corral Hollow Road in a "very subtle" lime green Kia Sol, officials reported.
According to police, Coveleski was at the wheel. When removed from the vehicle, he allegedly told officers a bomb was inside the car.
The area was secured as police called for assistance from the Stockton-Manteca Regional Bomb Squad. When the bomb-sniffing police dog did not detect explosive material, the bomb technicians obtained an X-ray of alleged bomb and determined it was a toiletry container with miscellaneous wires — not an explosive device.
An undisclosed amount of money allegedly stolen from the bank was recovered.
