Coyote sightings are common in the Bay Area, but this year there have been several confirmed bites on humans.

One coyote in particular has the attention of wildlife officials.

According to the East Bay Times, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife has confirmed a coyote that bit a man in Lafayette earlier this week is the same one that bit two other people in the same area in separate attacks this year.

The most recent incident happened Tuesday on Mount Diablo Blvd.

The man was reportedly hospitalized, but is expected to recover.

Earlier this week, DNA evidence showed the other two attacks, one involving a two-year-old boy and the other a man, were from the same coyote. The man was attacked December 4 when a coyote latched onto his leg while he was working out on the track near Campolindo High School.

"We swab into the actual wound right where the teeth entered the victim’s skin and we look for microscopic traces of the DNA left behind in the saliva from the offending animal," Capt. Patrick Foy said of the December 4 incident. "We also look at the clothing they were wearing and try to do the same thing."

The first attack happened July 9, when a young boy was bit at the Moraga Commons.

Coyote attacks in California are surprisingly up this year. Capt. Foy said if you’re being followed by one, you should make loud noises to scare them away.
