San Francisco International Airport has introduced facial recognition technology as a new way for passengers to check their bags and board an aircraft.
The software is called the Smart Path Biometric Program and it’s only available on select United Airlines domestic flights.
"You come up to the machine, and essentially the machine will walk you through a series of steps to get you enrolled," explained SFO spokesperson Doug Yakel. "Essentially what it’s doing is it’s matching your driver’s license with a photo of your face to make sure that those two are the same people. In other words, it helps verify your identity."
The program eliminates the need to use your driver’s license for identification.
"You can use your face to board the flight," he added.
The facial recognition program is only a trial right now.
