The fire erupted Tuesday on Kimball Island when temperatures climbed into the mid 80s, marking a historically hot day according to the National Weather Service.

The Rio Vista Fire Department arrived at the scene to assess the vegetation fire, but decided it was too risky to access the blaze, announcing in a Facebook post that they have decided to let the flames burn out.
The fire could go on for several days and bring down air quality in Antioch. "Residents of East Contra Costa County should be aware of poor air quality conditions in the area," the fire department warned.
Kimball Island is an uninhabited island with no residences or structures on it.
