Medical personnel transported the boy to a local children’s hospital at around 7:53 a.m. where he underwent multiple tests in the ICU. He is now recovering at the hospital after suffering non-life-threatening injuries, a Walnut Creek police spokesperson reported to the newspaper.

After the collision, the driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. The motorist was not injured in the crash.

The accident occurred one day after a crossing guard was hit and killed by a car in the neighboring city of Lafayette. Contra Costa County officials are now re-evaluating school drop off and pick up procedures.
