Not sheltering in place this year, Santa Claus is back at the mall!

It's predicted that Santa will be popular this holiday season, so the Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek and other shopping centers have decided to open appointments for visits with the iconic man in red.

"Photo packages are available which are very exciting as you get to choose how you want to meet Santa," Tracy Dietlein, senior manager of marketing at Broadway Plaza, told KCBS Radio.

Santa will be vaccinated and visitors will have some choices.

"You could be at a distance, you could come up close, you can leave your mask on, you can take your mask off, whatever you want to do for the actual photo," Dietlein said. "We just want to accommodate everyone and make everyone feel comfortable."

There will be other holiday events going on throughout the Bay Area as Santa has a busy schedule this year.

"We recommend you make reservations, but they’re not required," Dietlein said.

Overall, she said the mall is overjoyed to have their community back and to be positive a part of it.
