For the first time since becoming vice president, East Bay native Kamala Harris was back in Oakland on Monday.
The Democrat made several stops, one of which was at Red Door Catering, a minority female-owned business in West Oakland. "It is my great pride to lift up these stories because ultimately we are talking about stories of great success," Harris said.

Her first stop early Monday was the East Bay Municipal Utility District’s Upper San Leandro water treatment plant.
There, Harris gave a short speech about the Biden administration’s efforts to modernize the country’s water infrastructure through a $111 billion investment as part of their proposed $2.3 trillion "American Jobs Program."
At the plant, she praised the local utility for their work.
"This facility and this group have been doing work that really is a model for the country," she said.

Gov. Gavin Newsom was also at the event.
She later participated in a listening session with some other prominent local officials, business leaders and non-profits. After that, the vice president was scheduled to spend the rest of the day in Los Angeles.
