A family in Shreveport, La., is urging people to take COVID seriously and get vaccinated after two family members, a mother and her daughter, died one day apart from the virus.

Lacressana Williams, 21, learned she was COVID-positive during a routine checkup for her pregnancy.

“The next day we got a call saying she had to have an emergency C-section and she passed,” Williams’s aunt Cassandra Martin told KSLA-TV.

In addition to the newborn, Williams also leaves behind a 1-year-old child.

Martin said the news panicked Williams’s mother Victoria, 42, who also had COVID. She died just one day later. Neither of the Williams women was vaccinated.

“We heard about it and see it on TV, but you never think it will happen to your family,” Martin said.

The funeral for both women is set for Saturday, Aug. 21.
