On your next night out, you may want to consider walking as Uber announced that all customers in the U.S., excluding New York City, will have to pay a fuel surcharge.
For more, stream KCBS Radio now.

The announcement comes as the average price per gallon of gas passes its all-time high in the U.S., currently sitting at $4.32, according to AAA.
Customers will now have to pay a fee of 45 or 55 cents on each Uber trip they take, depending on their location. The new surcharge will be applied to all rides starting on March 16, a day before St. Patrick's Day.
Those homebodies who also like to use Uber Eats to order their food will also see the surcharge applied to their orders, with 35 or 45 cents being applied.
Uber drivers have shared their dismay on social media of the high gas costs in the U.S., saying it has eaten heavily into their earnings, making them question whether or not they should continue working for the company.
“We know that prices have been going up across the economy, so we’ve done our best to help drivers and couriers without placing too much additional burden on consumers,” Uber said in its announcement. “Over the coming weeks we plan to listen closely to feedback from consumers, couriers and drivers. We’ll also continue to track gas price movements to determine if we need to make additional changes.”
In their announcement of the surcharge, Uber did make clear that the fee will go directly to the drivers or deliverers.
The surcharge is not permanent, but it will last for at least 60 days. After two months, Uber plans to make adjustments from the feedback they get.
