Northern California's latest atmospheric river storm is good news for skiers.

Palisades Tahoe – formerly known as Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows – has announced that it will open its resorts this Friday, nearly a month earlier than planned, according to a news release.

The storm dumped three-and-a-half feet of snow at upper elevations of the resorts, which share a name but are based in separate locations.

This marks just the third time in 72 years that Palisades Tahoe has opened in October thanks to "tireless efforts of our frontline staff and operations crews," officials said. Palisades Tahoe last opened before Halloween in 2004.

The resorts will operate 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays through Sundays until daily operations start on Nov. 24. Palisades Tahoe will follow current guidelines from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Placer County regarding face masks.

Masks are required indoors for unvaccinated resort-goers only.

Masks are currently not required outdoors or in the Funitel or Tram.
