California has reached a vaccination milestone.
As of Friday morning, just over half of everyone eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in California is at least partially-immunized, according to the latest state data.
That breaks down to a bit more than 30% of the state's 16-and-older population being fully vaccinated. About another 20% are considered partially-vaccinated because they received the first shot in a two-dose vaccination sequence.
This comes as case numbers continue to creep upward. California is currently averaging about 3,000 new COVID-19 cases a day. That's up by about 20% over what the state was seeing at the start of April, but far below the numbers seen in December and January.
While cases are climbing, the number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 is steady or falling.
The Bay Area COVID-19 hospitalization tally has been hovering around 300 for the last several days, while statewide numbers are down by about 15% since the start of the month.
