Sacramento County Sheriff's detectives have arrested a 37-year-old man in connection with the sexual assault and homicide of a Rancho Cordova woman.
According to Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, Mikilo Morgan Rawls was arrested Friday and charged with murder, rape and sodomy following the homicide of 20-year-old Emma Roark.

"This type of violent crime tears at the fabric of community safety," Chief Deputy Jim Barnes said in a press release.

Roark was last seen leaving her home on Jan. 27. Following an extensive effort to find the missing woman, search crews located the body early Friday and determined she was a homicide victim, the sheriff's office reported.
"I am proud of the Sheriff's Office personnel, which includes the Rancho Cordova Police Department, who stood tall to protect our community and brought resolution to this brutal crime," Barnes said. "I also want to thank the Sacramento County District Attorney's Crime Lab for their collaboration on this investigation."
Rawls is currently being held at the Sacramento County Main Jail without bail, officers reported.
