California Gov. Gavin Newsom says he remains confident that the state will hit the June 15 mark for re-opening the economy.

The governor pointed to the state having the lowest positivity and case rates in the country as well as ongoing vaccination efforts as signs of continued progress.

"We are seeing stabilization in these case rates and we are confident that we will glide into June 15th and we will remove all the restrictions, all the modifications," he said.

Newsom also said we can’t spike the ball.

"We cannot lose sight of the fact that the most important thing we can do for an economic recovery is to extinguish this disease and get this pandemic behind us."

Governor Newsom noted that 58% of Californians have had at least one shot of the vaccine, but said that’s not close to herd immunity. On top of that, he said the state is monitoring more than 11 variants of the virus and we’re in a race against them.
