California readies for Johnson & Johnson vaccination

Governor Gavin Newsom says the state is increasing the number of vaccine doses distributed.

"The only constraint now is supply. We are administering more vaccines now formally than we are receiving from the federal government. It's not an indictment. It's all now about manufacture and supply. It's the only constraint in terms of our capacity to do more and better,"  he says.

Newsom says more one million doses are being distributed now each week with the ultimate goal to deliver about four million doses a week.

He says the state will expect more than 380,000 doses of the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine for each of the next three weeks. The J&J vaccine was given the green light by an FDA committee Friday afternoon.

The governor spoke today in the Fresno area where the state is working to boost vaccinations in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley.
