Being a resident of California has never been this rewarding.
Surrounded by minions, trolls and transformers, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced the final 10 winners of Vax for the Win on Tuesday at Universal Studios in Los Angeles County.
With the assistance of Access Hollywood television personality Scott Evans and Helen Cordova, the first healthcare worker in the state to receive a vaccine, the winners were called. The numbers were drawn from a machine with various numbered balls that represent a person in a California county.
To protect privacy, only the counties where the winners reside were announced.
Each won a boggling $1.5 million. Winners – who remain anonymous and are only identified by their county of residence – live in Los Angeles, Marin, Riverside, Santa Barbara, Sacramento, Stanislaw, and Ventura counties.
A giant check was held aloft by the governor and the others at the end of the drawing to represent the checks the recipients would receive in the next coming days.
And the rewards aren’t over yet. Other prizes are imminent, such as for those who haven't been vaccinated yet. According to Newsom, state residents will be eligible to receive a $50 gift card if they get vaccinated going forward.
"We are the biggest state, so we have the biggest cash giveaways and cash prizes," added Newsom.
