Governor Gavin Newsom and Jennifer Siebel Newsom offered a greeting to California's moms on Mother's Day, while providing an update on how the state budget could be used to help parents.

In a video posted on Twitter, the governor proposed that California add 100,000 additional child care slots.

“For Mother’s Day, I can assure you we have the backs of mothers and will be making investments to solve real problems and to acknowledge the extraordinary stress that so many moms, particularly working moms, have been under this past year,” Newsom said.

He also proposed $200 million to support career pathways for home care workers, as well as millions more in state funds for child care providers.

“We have this extraordinary moment in California’s history, where we’re going to be making some bold investments and some big investments in particular to support parents, to support not only parents’ agenda, but in particular, mothers,” Newsom said.

The full state budget plan is expected later this week.
