A plan to lift evacuation mandates was thwarted by the Dixie Fire after a major increase in activity Thursday night.
Last night, the Dixie Fire grew 450 acres, prompting CAL FIRE officials to cancel the repopulation of Chester, Lake Almanor West and Prattville.
Currently, the blaze has burned 517,545 acres with 31% containment. 1,109 structures have been destroyed with 6,168 firefighters and 20 helicopters working to extinguish the flames.
Over the weekend, temperatures are predicted to spike in Tehama, Butte, Plumas and Lassen counties. Some areas will reach 112 degrees.
CAL FIRE spokesman, firefighter Edwin Zuniga, told KCBS Radio that they are “pretty concerned” with the potential weather, but know what they’re in store for and are trying to get ahead of it as much as they can.
Officials have facilitated small burns to protect areas threatened by the blaze.
Despite an overall increase in the Dixie Fire, evacuations have been lifted in Butte County.
