Parts of the Bay Area see frost as unusual cool weather sets in

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – It has been unusually cold for this time of year in the Bay Area, and it's getting even colder.

According to a post by the National Weather Service on Sunday, parts of the Bay Area could start to see the season's first frost on Monday.

The advisory focused on areas south of San Jose, as well as the Santa Clara Valley.

Starting at 11 p.m. on Sunday through to 9 a.m. on Monday, temperatures in those as areas as well as some interior valleys were projected to get as low as 29 degrees.

The temperature, which could fall to 33 degrees, according to the advisory, would result in frost formation.

"Temperatures will dip into the 30s as a cold airmass settles in with additional radiative cooling overnight," said a tweet from NWS on Sunday.

The cold temperatures are below normal for this time of year, according to NWS, and coming close to setting records.

In Oakland, the forecast low was 46 degrees and the record low was 47 degrees back in 1975.

In San Francisco, the low forecast was 49 degrees, and the record was 48 degrees in 1949, 1916, 1913, 1912, 1892 and 1881.
