Wichita man allegedly tried to kill a woman with a hammer on Christmas Eve

KANSAS CITY - A 43-year-old man is charged with attempted murder and other crimes after he allegedly hit a woman with a hammer on Christmas Eve in the northeast part of Wichita.

Jason Eastburn is facing charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery, aggravated burglary, aggravated child endangerment, criminal threat, and criminal damage to property.

Officers responded just after 9:30 a.m. last Wednesday to the 7200 block of E. 24th Street North (west of Rock Road); the police reports lists three victims in this case, including a child under the age of 18.

The criminal case involving a half-dozen counts includes:

*Striking a woman (initials of D.G.) with a hammer in an attempt to kill her.
*Causing great bodily harm or disfigurement to D.G.
*Entering into or remaining in a residence with multiple occupants, including D.G., with the intent to commit first-degree murder.

Eastburn is jailed on a $2 million bond.
