CRESTWOOD, Mo. (KMOX) Remember Mt. Crestwood? The pile of rubble pictured above at the old Crestwood Mall site?

Nowadays, it's a vacant moonscape, awaiting news from the developer about a promised redevelopment.

It's been six years since Crestwood Mall shut down, two years since it was demolished, and in April the city gave the developer six more months to nail down a deal with retail tenants.

Where does that last part stand now? KMOX's Kevin Killeen asked Crestwood City Manager Kris Simpson.

"On the optimistic side, they have told us they have several commitments from partners that are willing to be a part of the project. I'm optimistic we'll have something this fall that indicates we're on to the next steps."

What's planned is a $100 million-plus combination of retail, residential and commercial properties.  The deadline for the developer to reveal his deal is October.

Simpson says he doesn't think the growth of online shopping over on-site shopping is a problem, because people still want a shopping experience, and the proposed site would be a mix of retail residential and commercial properties.
