WATCH: First look at 'American Underdog' movie based on Kurt Warner's legendary story

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The incredible story of a grocery store worker turned into a Super Bowl champion quarterback is hitting the big screen this December and we just got a first look at the Kurt Warner story.

"American Underdog" tells the story of St. Louis Rams QB Kurt Warner, who went from stocking shelves at a supermarket to become a two-time NFL MVP, Super Bowl champion, and Hall of Fame quarterback. The faith-based film is directed by the Erwin brothers who also made "Friday Night Lights." Some clips of the video were shared on YouTube Wednesday morning, which you can watch in the video above.

The role of Warner is being played by Zachary Levi, known for "Shazam!" and "Chuck." Some of the others leading roles are:

Brenda Warner, Kurt's wife: Anna Paquin
Dick Vermeil, Rams head coach: Dennis Quaid
Marshall Faulk, Rams running back: O.J. Keith Simpson
Mike Martz, Rams coach: Chance Kelly
Trent Green, Rams QB: Ben Kacsandi

Warner took the then St. Louis Rams to a Super Bowl victory in 2000, won the league's MVP award and piloted an offense known as the Greatest Show On Turf. The year before that, he was playing in the Arena League.

He won NFL MVP again two years later and went to play in two more Super Bowls in his career, one with the Rams and then took the Arizona Cardinals to its first Super Bowl.
