ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The Missouri Supreme Court has refused to block an order that would require Los Angeles Rams owner Stan Kroenke and other NFL officials to hand over financial records if they lose the St. Louis relocation lawsuit.
Lawyers for Kroenke and the league asked the court to block a St. Louis Circuit judge's July order requiring them to turn over their finances. The information would be used for a jury to consider the amount of punitive damages awarded to St. Louis.
The court didn't explain its latest ruling, but simply denied the request. You can read the full ruling, here.
If the Rams and NFL do lose this lawsuit, it could mean we get to learn more about Kroenke's financial portfolio, which includes other sports franchises, management groups, a winery and other businesses, as well as his wife, multibillionaire heir to the Walmart fortune Ann Walton Kroenke's financial dealings. Forbes estimates his net worth at $10.7 billion.
The suit filed by St. Louis, St. Louis County and the St. Louis Regional Convention and Sports Complex Authority in 2017 claims the NFL violated its own relocation rules by allowing the Rams to leave St. Louis. They've reportedly been seeking around $1 billion in damages.
The trial is scheduled to begin in January in a St. Louis courtroom.
