ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Yes, you read that right. At long last, John Mozeliak is appearing on my "Garage Happy Hour" this week.
"Well, it only took you a year to invite me," Mozeliak said to me on KMOX recently.
He is correct, of course. The show that began at the start of the pandemic just celebrated its anniversary with actor Jon Hamm, a St. Louis native, as the featured guest.
For Mozeliak, the Cardinals' president of baseball operations, we're going to do something unique.
"This is a casual environment, right?" Mozeliak asked me.
Yes, indeed. And we'll treat it as such, asking "Mo" to tell a few stories as he sits inside a private box at the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach, Fla.
That's right. We're going to have you experience a Cardinals game, or at least an inning or so, with Mozeliak. I'll be drinking a beer in my garage, per usual. Mozeliak will not partake as he'll be working.
"Surprise," Mozeliak laughed. "Looking forward to it, it will be fun. Lighthearted. And I guess we'll chat Thursday."
We will... this Thursday, March 25 on the @KMOXSports Facebook and Twitter accounts at 5:30 p.m. CT.
But I do want to cover a few baseball topics, and that's where you come in. Understand that I may or may not use my own questions here, but I'd love for you to submit one or two. And if I get to them, I get to them. I mean, it's the "Garage Happy Hour." It's a good time and sometimes we just chat about whatever comes to mind.
Here are some ideas to get you started, some topics we might get into when we're not talking about specific players and positions:
1) Let's tell the story of how Nolan Arenado became a Cardinal. (I know this one goes back a ways, as much as he can tell us.)
2) How does a trade generally start? How long can these talks sometimes go with other teams?
3) The Cardinals keep their business fairly close to the vest. How do you keep trade rumors and free agent discussions from leaking?
4) At this point in your career, are you able to keep from reacting (or even seeing/hearing) criticism from fans and media?
5) Two world championships, four NL pennants have been won in your time with the Cardinals. Ever think back to that clubhouse job, throwing batting practice for the Rockies in 1993, and where this journey has taken you?
You can send me a question via Twitter @Ackerman1120. Thanks!
