ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Solid pitching, clutch hitting and great defensive are probably the most likely causes of the St. Louis Cardinals current franchise-record 16-game win streak. But we've just learned that maybe some other forces are at work.

Pitcher Adam Wainwright says it may be thanks to the luck of one little girl that's a huge fan. The veteran pitcher tweeted an amazing story about a young girl named Emery Ernst who was at six games in Chicago and Milwaukee on this winning streak. She gave him a letter and all of her allowance as a donation to Waino's Big League Impact charity.

"I met a little girl named Emery this week with her mom that absolutely melted my heart," Wainwright stated. "This little girl may be our good luck charm."

Some photos were shared by Megan Ernst on Twitter of the meeting and Wainwright autographing the young girl's jersey:

The letter is pretty hilarious too, as she congratulated Wainwright on his 2,000th career strikeout, said she knows Cubs fans are "stinky" because she lives with three of them and even gave Wainwright her autograph.

Wainwright also suggested getting the good luck charm some tickets to the Cardinals possible playoff games. They've won 16 games in a row with sweeps of the New York Mets, San Diego Padres, Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs.

Wainwright's charity has raised more than $5.8 million over the last decade to help food, water, shelter and other basic needs to those struggling in the US and around the world. Learn more, here.
