ST. LOUIS (KMOX) -Just one day after returning the St. Louis Cardinals lineup, catcher Yadier Molina has been placed on the 10-day injured list.
The team announced on Tuesday he's out due to a right foot tendon strain. He was taken out of Friday's game with soreness in his right foot and missed the next two games.
He played all nine innings of Monday's 2-1 loss, but told manager Mike Shildt after the game he "had trouble moving around" on Tuesday morning, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Molina, 38, is off to one of the best starts of his career, leading the Cardinals in batting (.323), doubles (5), home runs (5) and RBI (14). It is just the ninth time in his 18-year Major League career that Molina has been placed on the IL.
St. Louis recalled catcher Ali Sánchez from the team’s Alternate Training Site. The 24-year-old was acquired by the Cardinals for cash considerations from the New York Mets in February. The right-handed hitting Sánchez, a native of Venezuela, made his Major League debut last season, appearing in five games with the Mets.
St. Louis hosts the Phillies on Tuesday with a 6:45 p.m. first pitch.
