(KMOX) - The pandemic took a lot of things away from baseball in 2020, but most notable was the loss of MLB players interacting with fans – especially young fans.

Thankfully, St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Lane Thomas is making up for some of those lost opportunities. He made a young fan's birthday all the more special Wednesday night when he tossed his St. Patrick's Day green hat up to the fan after the final out of the game.

Check out the video of Logan catching the hat from Thomas:

Andy Lale says it was his son's 11th birthday and the former Springfield, Mo. residents have been waiting for two years to watch their favorite team play. He says they had planned to go Spring Training last year, but didn't get there before the pandemic shut down the league.

Logan caught Thomas' attention after he made a catch earlier in the game, telling the 25-year-old, "Good play." Then he let Thomas know it was his birthday.

Thomas told him "Happy Birthday" and then after the last out of game, went back to the centerfield fence at The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches and frisbeed the cap to Logan.

It'll be great to see these kinds of interactions back at Busch Stadium this summer!
