ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Just minutes after the St. Louis Cardinals were bounced from the 2020 MLB playoffs the baseball world was struck with the news of Hall of Famer pitcher Bob Gibson's death.

Catcher Yadier Molina had an especially emotional reaction in his postgame press conference:

"A game is a game, I mean, you can lose a game, but when you lose a guy like Bob Gibson, a legend, it's just hard," Molina says. "We lose another one, Cardinals nation loses another one."

Molina is referencing the death of Lou Brock, another Hall of Fame Cardinals player who died last month.

Pitcher Jack Flaherty, who started on Friday and allowed just one run in his six innings of work, was also very close to Gibson and had this to say after the game:

Flaherty said he had knowledge of Gibson's current health conditions and nearly wore a Gibson jersey before Friday's game to honor the legend.

He also talked about how special it was that Gibson first reached out to Flaherty a few years ago as the young pitcher was starting make a name for himself in the big leagues.

"He was definitely on my mind tonight. It just hurts," Flaherty says. "What you want to do as an athlete is you want to seek advice from the best of the best and there's not many people better than a guy like that.

"I was able to take every last bit of information from him and that's exactly what I wanted to do once I was given the chance to have that relationship with him."
